Storstupet
Storstupet is an impressive ravine where the Österdalälven River cascades down through a narrow valley – a magnificent natural phenomenon and a historic reminder from the peak of the timber industry. In the past, the site was used for timber floating; logs were pulled from the river, and intense efforts were made to guide the flow of timber through the narrow passages.

Today, the area is perfect for a hike in nature. There is a marked trail that takes you to three fascinating locations along the river: Storstupet, Helvetesfallet, and Helvetesfjället. The hike offers beautiful views, roaring waterfalls, and peaceful forest sections. An ideal day trip for those who want to combine history, nature, and exercise.
We offer a package where we accompany you to the starting point, hike together to one of the viewpoints, light a fire, and serve lunch or fika in the great outdoors. Afterward, we’ll drive you back to the starting point where your car is parked. A safe, enjoyable, and memorable nature experience!
